Sustainable Landfill Gas Treatment System Operational

Tuesday, June 6, 2023

The WIN Waste Innovations of Seneca County Advanced Sulfur Removal Gas Treatment System is now operational and will further reduce sulfur dioxide emissions by 98%. The system will safely remove sulfur from the landfill gas stream that can then be sustainably used in agricultural applications. This is another step toward eventually converting landfill gas into renewable energy, a critical element of WIN Waste’s sustainable materials management strategy.

WIN Waste has invested nearly $54 million in this extensive environmental improvement project, which has also been an economic shot in the arm for the region. The landfill partnered with local contractors, including Clouse Construction, Frankart Electric, Continuum Environmental, Beaver Excavating and Bugner Environmental. WIN Waste also has hired an entirely local workforce to operate the facility as construction has come to an end.
